On the LCWO website, there is an effective and a character speed controller. Should I also use an effective and a character speed controller? I feel like character speed doesn't really make sense since, according to Dr. Vincent, the length of the dits and the dahs are supposed to stay always the same.

Here’s how the two speeds work: Character Speed: How fast the individual letters or symbols are sent. It controls the timing of dits and dahs and doesn’t change, so it makes sense to keep it constant. Effective Speed: This is the overall speed of the message, including the pauses between letters and words. Slowing this down gives you more time to think, which is helpful when learning. So yes, I’d suggest using both. Keep the character speed high (like 15-20 WPM) to get used to hearing letters as whole patterns rather than counting dits and dahs. Then adjust the effective speed to something slower (maybe 5-10 WPM) until you get more comfortable. This way, you’re training for real-world speeds while still giving yourself breathing room to learn.
