There is some confusion for answering this question, because it depends on which class you are in.

For Mueller's classes, the Self-Checks are not required, but certain Self-Checks are recommended so that you will be prepared for daily quizzes.

For Stonedahl's classes, certain PracticeIt Self-Checks are assigned as well as PracticeIt Exercises... and yes, you need to complete them to earn full credit on that homework assignment!

I believe that you always do them in preparation for the daily quiz. However, there are routine assignments that should be completed as noted on moodle.

Ryan is correct, the "Self-Check"s are suggested questions that will prepare us for each daily quiz. The routine assignments that he mentions typically instruct you to do the "Exercise"s that come just after "Self-Check"s on PracticeIt.
