Has anyone successfully used the Augie email with an outside mail client?

+8 votes
I was just curious if anyone here uses a third-party mail client (like Thunderbird, Evolution, Outlook?...) to access the Gmail-hosted Augustana email account. I've been trying to configure different mail clients to work with my Augie email and none of them seem to be able to connect to it. I'm assuming there must be some subtle settings difference because of the fact that it uses a different domain name but is still really Gmail.

As far as I know, OS differences shouldn't matter here and different mail clients work very similarly, so any advice could potentially be helpful.

I haven't tried this with Augie's email, but I used to do it with another GMail account.  In the Gmail settings, you need to go through the Forwarding and POP/IMAP settings, and enable either POP or IMAP (depending on how you want to access the email), and follow the configuration instructions that are linked there.

I could easily get it to work on any program I tried with a regular gmail account, but not the Augie one, which is why I thought the domain name was tripping something up. I finally got it to work in Thunderbird after switching the port to the other one I think, which is not preferable but it works so I'll take it I guess. The configuration instructions are helpful but everything was already set up appropriately in the gmail settings.
