What is an instance methods?

A method inside an object that operates on that object.
You can read more on page 524.

also we tend to use the words “instance” and “object” interchangeably don't know if this helps tho

Just to add my two cent.

An instance method can only be called on an instance of the class (object) so you can only use such method when you have that object. Static method on the other hand can be called without a declared object.
