user story is a short description of a particular client's use for the software, and the reason they want to use it. It usually follow the script:

"As a [actor], I want [action] so that [achievment]"

On the other hand, a use case is a descriptionof the set of interactions between the software and the client, which can include standard flows, alternate flows, actors, and goals among other things.
